RV Dee’s comprehensive guide for the veteran RV owner
How To Find the Perfect RV, Recreational Vehicle, involves considering factors in detail to match your lifestyle, travel needs, and budget. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help the veteran buyer find the right one.
If you’ve never owned a RV before, check out my recommendations for the first-time RV buyer, How to Find the Perfect RV for the First Time Buyer.
Whether you’ve owned, rented or just camped several times with friends in an RV, you have experiences that will help you find the perfect RV more readily than a beginner. If you’ve mainly camped with friends, I encourage you not to think you want to get the same RV that so and so owns. Things are much different for an RV owner than for someone just staying as a guest.
The first step I recommend is to write down the Top Ten things you like about your current, previous, or friend’s RV. This will be the foundation for your Top Ten list that will help you quickly narrow down the best models using a RV Floorplan Search Engine like RV4.US.
To get your thinking kickstarted, take a look at the current Top Ten list entries available on RV4.US. Once you have the list above, scan through the list from RV4.US and see if other things that weren’t on the first list are important to you. If you’d like to read up more on creating your Top Ten list, view this post on my site: Developing a great RV Model Top Ten List. You can also see the current Top Ten list on the RV4.US site.
Add these new items to your list. Don’t worry if it is more than ten; that’s unimportant. While the RV4.US Floorplan Search Engine talks about Top Ten, it will work for a list of twelve or fourteen just as well.
Once you have your wish list, proceed to the RV4.US site.
Select the RV Types that you’d like to filter by. Remember, I recommend selecting them all unless you’re absolutely sure of which type you want. RV4.US proprietary algorithms will weed out any RV models that don’t meet your criteria. Leave out Park Models unless that’s what you’re looking for.
The next step is to fill in your Filters. If you have any requirements that fit these filter criteria, enter them here. The Max Hitch Weight will be the tongue weight of a trailer or fifth wheel. If it’s a Class A, it will be the max tongue weight that can be towed with the motorhome.
If you want to only see “Toy Haulers”, then select that check box.
The second screen is where you’ll select your Top Ten items. There is a convenient search box near the top of the list that can help filter out items to make is easier to find them. Once you find the one you’re looking for, just click it.
Your selection will show at the top of the screen in the “Top Ten Selection List” section. You can remove it by clicking the “X” next to it, or by clicking the grid item again to de-select.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please don’t be tempted to enter only a few items from your list. RV4.US is designed to show you the results that meet as many of your criteria as possible. It’s not like those other websites that just say “no models found” and show you models that have nothing to do with your search.
Once you reach ten, a popup will tell you that you’ve reached that landmark, however, if you have more items on your list, go ahead and continue to select them.
Once you have all your Top Ten items selected, click on the “EASY TOP TEN FLOORPLAN SEARCH” button at the bottom of the screen.
In this example, my results show that there are 13 RV floorplans that match all 10 of my Top Ten list. To view a complete list of all the features of the floorplan, click on the “Features and Benefits” bar below the Specifications section.
This will show you an exhaustive list of all the features and functional benefits that are available for this model. Please keep in mind that some of the features and functional benefits may be options and not available in every version of the model you see I person.
If you’d like to have an RV Expert contact you about any model in your search results, click on the “Have a RV Expert Contact Me!” button and fill out the pertinent information. I’ll do my best to have someone that is in your general area contact you.
In many cases, there may be buttons above the floorplan that will link you to the manufacturer’s website. Sometimes the model pages change. If the Model link does not bring you to the correct page, try using the Brand or Manufacturer link. Since we are not in control of these outside websites, they can change their pages without notice and it takes us a while to catch up.
Rinse and Repeat! That’s how simple it is to use the best RV floorplan search engine. Happy Hunting!

RV4.US uses a term for features an RV has that you won’t find in a list of features from the manufacturer as Functional Benefits. Being able to select from a list of Functional Benefits to match an RV is only available at RV4.US. A functional benefit is a benefit that the RV has that adds […]
